In the chosen direction, tiles slide as far as possible until either another tile or the edge of the grid stops them. If, when moving, two tiles with the same number collide, they combine into a tile with the total value of the two tiles that have collided. The resulting tile in the same move can not merge with another tile again. If a move causes three consecutive tiles of the same value to slip together, it will combine only the two tiles that are farthest in the direction of motion.
